Patient Oriented Eczema Measure (POEM)
(To be filled in by parents or assisted by parents)
The Patient Oriented Eczema Measure (POEM) is a fully patient-derived and patient-assessed scale tool for monitoring the severity of atopic dermatitis (AD), focusing on the illness as experienced by the patient. POEM is a 6-question tool suitable for outpatient clinic, auditing, epidemiological studies, and clinical trial use. POEM is also recommended as the core outcome instrument for measuring patient-reported symptoms in eczema trials.
POEM has been validated for AD patients of all ages. This version of POEM is intended for the parents of pediatric patients. Click here to fill in the form for yourself.

Scoring Principle :

Each question is scored between 0-4 points from left to right with a maximum of 28 points from the above 7 questions. If 1 question is left unanswered, the score for that question is 0, but if >1 questions are unanswered, the score is invalid. Bandings for the severity of AD are established as follows: clear or almost clear (0-2); mild disease (3-7); moderate disease (8-16); severe disease (17-24); very severe disease (25-28).

If you are concerned that your eczema may not be well controlled, please seek medical advice. Bring your completed test results with you at your next scheduled consultation and speak to your doctor with the help of the test results to describe how your eczema is affecting you.
